We are thrilled to announce our upcoming
Skill-Building Series for Interpreters Assigned to Educational Settings
Approved by the Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters, CCHI, for 7.5 CEUs, the International Medical
Interpreters Association, IMIA for 0.75 IMIA/NBCMI CEUs, the
American Translators Association for 10 CEUs and the Washington
Department of Social and Health Services for 9 CEUs!!
The Skill-Building Series is non-language specific and is open to intermediate to advanced interpreters who assist clients in a school setting; bilingual personnel currently working in school settings; interpreters working with early intervention entities assisting families with transition meetings, and community, medical and legal interpreters seeking to expand their knowledge about interpreting in education settings.
WHY: Federal law specifies that English Learner students be assessed in their native language when referred for possible special education. Monolingual school professionals must rely on interpreters that come prepared with the vocabulary and knowledge of the procedures involving special education services. Working with untrained Medical, Community, Educational and Legal interpreters may influence or possibly invalidate standard scores and negatively affect a child’s eligibility for special education services, or contribute to the overrepresentation of English Learner students in the special education setting.
HOW MUCH: The series of online learning modules is $225. This includes access to all five live webinars, a glossary of terms applicable to each learning module, and resources for further professional development. Fees are non-refundable.
WHO: Ana Soler is the Founder & CEO of SeSo, Inc., a source of skill-building workshops for educational interpreters and advanced professional development training for medical interpreters. Ana has authored interpreter training and train-the-trainer curricula nationally including the Intercultural Parent and Youth Leadership Program, the Interpretation Academy for Bilingual High School Students, the Arkansas Interpreter in Education Credential Training, and two online courses offered by the University of Georgia (Professional Interpreter in Education Certificate and Professional Interpreter in Special Education Certificate). She is an active medical and educational interpreter and translator. Guest speakers will include school professionals and SeSo, Inc. linguists who work in the medical and school settings.
WHAT: This Skill-Building Series is composed of five learning modules presented via live webinars. Each module will offer participants sight translation and consecutive interpretation examples, a glossary of terms pertinent to the topic presented, and additional resources for professional development. Participants will be assessed through a pre and post test and a quiz at the end of each module. CEUs and a certificate of attendance will be provided upon completion of all five online modules.
